<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device having a structure in which a developer may be securely recovered over a long period of time, by making it easy for a developer to be separated from a developer carrier. <P>SOLUTION: In an image forming method using a developing device which comprises a developer carrier for supplying a two-component developer including toner and a carrier to an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier and in which rotatable magnetic field generating means provided with magnetic poles for napping and conveying a developer is disposed inside the developer carrier, the carrier has a core material and a coating film for coating the core material and the surface is coated with the coating film. The coating film includes a binder resin and particles and has an average height difference of 0.05 μm or more and 2.0 μm or less.
