<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated paper that is excellent in bulkiness, smoothness, print gloss, and blister resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The coated paper has a coating layer on at least either one face of a base paper. The coated paper includes a base paper, a pigment coating layer provided on at least either one face of the base paper and containing a pigment and a binder as main components. The base paper contains 10-80 mass% of mechanical pulp. The Runkel ratio of the pulp obtained by disintegrating the pigment coating layer in accordance with JIS P8220:1998 "pulp-disintegration method" is 0.6-2.1. The pigment coating layer contains latex and a water-soluble polymer as the binder. As the pigment, a fine pigment having an average particle diameter of 0.1 μm or more and less than 2.0 μm and a plate-like pigment having an average particle diameter of 2.0 μm or more and less than 5.0 μm are contained in a ratio of 30-70:70-30 by mass.
