<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a knee bolster for vehicle which can reduce mass while being able to stabilize load-displacement characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In the knee bolster for the vehicle, an energy absorbing member 14 arranged ahead of a knee of a seated occupant is fixed to a metallic bracket prepared in an instrument panel reinforcement. In the energy absorbing member 14, a dilatant part 16 which comprises the material which has the dilatant characteristics is arranged inside of the case 15 made of resin. Thereby normally, a shape of a soft dilatant part 16 is held. Meanwhile, upon collision of the vehicle, impact is added from occupant's knee to an energy absorbing member 14, and the dilatant part 16 hardens in an instant. Thereby, since the energy absorbing member 14 is prevented from breaks, and load-displacement characteristics can be stabilized. Moreover, linear dimension of the metallic bracket 22 can be shortened by lengthening the linear dimension of the energy absorbing member 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
