The invention relates to an anti-piracy system for the distribution, reproduction and transfer of content and to the method for operating same. According to the invention, audiovisual, textual, data or any other type of content, taken at the source thereof, is processed such that it can only be reproduced in reproduction systems authorised by the system and such that controlled copying is only allowed when actively requested by the owner, on a case by case basis. Consequently, content cannot be reproduced outside of the system or copied without the authorisation of the original owner or a designated person. Moreover, limits are placed on the time allocated, as well as on the number of times content can be reproduced, such that a copy cannot generate a new copy without the permission of the owner.
