The field device (F) has a wireless communication interface (K1) for sending and/or receiving radio signals via an antenna (A1) according to global system for mobile communications. A receiving interface (K2) receives a wake-up signal (S) that wakes up the communication interface from a stand-by mode via another antenna (A2). The latter interface responds to a part of the wake-up signal and starts decoding of another part of the wake-up signal. A logic unit compares an address of the latter part of the wake-up signal with an address of the field device. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a field device.
