Provided are a flameproofing aid and a method whereby soiling in the dyeing machine can be inhibited, and cloth soiling after dyeing may be eliminated, and whereby stable flameproofing can be performed when polyester fiber is flameproofed using a flameproofing active ingredient having a melting point of 80-150°C. A processing aid containing one or more surfactants selected from the group consisting of surfactants expressed by general formula (I) below and surfactants expressed by general formula (II) below is used. In general formulas (I) and (II), X represents a hydrogen atom or an anionic group, Y represents a substituent group expressed by the formula shown below, m and n represent the numbers m = 1-5 and n = 1-200, R1 represents a C2-C4 alkylene group, and R2 and R3 represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-C7 alkyl group.
