The invention relates to an electric household food processor comprising: a base (1) supporting a bowl; an arm (3) solidly connected to the base; and a motor connected to means (5) for driving a working tool (4), said means being supported by the arm (3). The arm (3) can move between a working position in which the working tool (4) is lowered into the bowl and a raised position facilitating access to the working tool (4) and to the contents of the bowl. The arm (3) supports a lid (9) that covers the bowl when the arm (3) is in the working position. The invention is characterised in that the lid (9) is borne by at least one safety member (34) that can move between a lower "rest" position, into which it is returned automatically when no pressure is exerted below the lid (9), and an upper "activated" position into which it is moved when the lid (9) rests on the bowl as the arm (3) moves into the working position. The invention is also characterised in that the safety member (34) belongs to a safety device that only authorises the operation of the motor when the safety member (34) is in the activated position.
