<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for bi-directional current detection for a synchronous rectifier bi-directional converter system. <P>SOLUTION: A synchronous rectifier bi-directional converter system 400 constitutes a SPICE circuit; comprises an inductor L1 coupled to a battery V1 and a resistor R3, a first force commutated synchronous rectifier 404, and a second force commutated synchronous rectifier 406; and operates as a battery charge/discharge regulator. The first force commutated synchronous rectifier 404 comprises a high side forced commutation circuit 410 and a high side driver 408, both coupled to a transformer TX1. The transformer TX1 comprises a primary P1 and a secondary S1, and a resistor R1. Similarly, the second force commutated synchronous rectifier 406 comprises a low side forced commutation circuit 414 and a low side driver 412, both coupled to a transformer TX2.
