<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure confidentiality of service execution that each user performs and to improve convenience in setting and operation on a device connected to a network when a plurality of users share the device. <P>SOLUTION: When a portable terminal is held up, a server which controls a device performs user authentication, and generates and send menu information corresponding to an execution state of the device to the portable terminal. The portable terminal selects a desired service, a set value, etc., from the menu information acquired from the server, and is held up again. The server acquires choice answer information from the portable terminal, and determines an execution state of the service, specified with the information, on the device. When the service can be executed, the server sets exclusive execution authority for the service and blocks an execution start request made by another portable terminal, and then sends an execution start instruction for the service to the device.
