<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of cracks and also ensure excellent discharge characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The discharge lamp which emits light by a DC lighting method includes: a luminous tube 21 comprised of a light-emitting part 22, and a cathode side narrow tube part 23 and an anode side narrow tube part 24 disposed so as to sandwich the light-emitting part 22; a cathode side electrode 28 connected to a cathode side connecting rod 30; and an anode side electrode 29 connected to an anode side connecting rod 33. The anode side narrow tube part includes a swollen part 26 provided at an end on the light-emitting part side and an insertion part 25 which is contiguous to the swollen part and into which the anode side connecting rod is inserted, in which composition a part of the anode side electrode is located inside the swollen part, and the swollen part is provided with an equal diameter part 26a whose inner diameter is formed to a uniform size in an axial direction of the anode side electrode. The light-emitting part is provided with a flat part 22a whose axial direction is matched to that of the anode side electrode and which is formed in a cylindrical shape.
