<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display image in which a luminance level difference in a black image part is suppressed by minimizing the unwanted power of a backlight, in an image display device in which the backlight is divided into a plurality of backlight cells and the light intensity of the backlight cells can be individually controlled. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device including a backlight 107 in which a plurality of backlight cells 601 whose light intensity can be individually controlled are two-dimensionally combined and a liquid crystal panel 108 which modulates the light of the backlight 107 for each pixel and displays an image includes a region histogram detection part 102 which detects a luminance histogram for each display region of the liquid crystal panel corresponding to each backlight cell from the input image signal of one frame, to detect maximum luminance information, a region black area detection part 101 which detects a region black area for each display region corresponding to each backlight cell, and a light control value determination part 103 which determines the light emission quantity of each backlight cell according to the detected maximum luminance information and region black area for each region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
