The present invention is characterized in being provided with: a communication unit (22) which connects to another display device so as to transmit and receive information; a control instruction signal input unit (23) for inputting a control instruction signal indicating an instruction regarding display control; a storage unit (21a) for storing setting information indicating either that the display device itself is a master display performing control on the basis of the control instruction signal, or that the display device itself is a slave display which does not perform control on the basis of the control instruction signal; a display control unit (205) which inputs video image data in order to display upon the display unit an image on the basis of the video image data; and a main control unit (21) which, if the setting information stored in the storage unit indicates being the master display, outputs to the display control unit and another display device value a control signal indicating instruction to the display control unit of control based on the control instruction signal, and if the setting information stored in the storage unit indicates being the slave display, performs control of the display control unit on the basis of the control signal which has been input from the other display device without instructing the display control unit to perform control based on the control instruction signal.
