PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a subtitle without affecting a video being viewed.

SOLUTION: A digital broadcast receiver comprises: a subtitle monitoring unit 21 for always monitoring whether or not a subtitle is included in a receiving signal obtained by receiving a digital broadcast; a subtitle analysing unit 22 for analysing the subtitle when the included subtitle is detected by the monitoring to generate subtitle information including its detailed information; an external video input unit 11 for inputting an external video from the outside; a video layout unit 24 for determining each display size and position of the subtitle indicating image and the external video so that the subtitle indicating image generated according to the subtitle information does not overlap the external video based on the detailed subtitle information and data of the external video; a graphics creating unit 23 for creating a subtitle indicating image having the display size determined by the video layout unit using the subtitle information; and a video synthesizing unit 13 for synthesizing the created subtitle-indicating image with the external video, thereby displaying the synthesized video.
