<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which an image forming position on a recording sheet and an image writing position on an image carrier may be accurately aligned with each other even when a sheet conveyance position of the recording sheet is unexpectedly largely shifted. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 employs, in a continuous image forming operation for a plurality of recording sheets P, a quick correction mode in which image formation is carried out, for a prescribed number of recording sheets P out of the plural recording sheets P, on the basis of an image writing position having been corrected in accordance with a detected correction amount and the image formation is carried out, for the rest of the recording sheets P, on the basis of the corrected image writing position for the prescribed number of recording sheets; and a linear correction mode in which the image formation is carried out for a plurality of recording sheets P on the basis of an image writing position having been corrected in accordance with a detected correction amount.
