<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic brake system that improves travel safety when a control system is faulty. <P>SOLUTION: When the centroid G1 of a vehicle is located on the right side of the center of the lateral direction, an arm from the centroid G1 to ground points of front and back wheels on the right side is shorter than the arm from the centroid to the ground points of front and back wheels on the left side. When the control system is faulty, the output hydraulic pressure of a mechanical pressure boosting device 96 is supplied to a brake cylinder of a right front wheel 4, a right back wheel 48 and a left front wheel 2, and consequently the total breaking forces to be applied to the front and back wheels 4, 48 on the right side becomes larger than that of breaking forces to be applied to the front and back wheels 2, 46 on the left side.
