An electrode for a secondary cell comprises a metal sheet support, one face of which is amalgamated, and affixed to the support, a preformed sheet of electro-chemically active material capable of taking up mercury from the support, whereby an amalgamated electrode is formed. The support may be copper and the active material may be zinc, cadmium or iron. A silver/zinc alkaline accumulator may be made using the silver electrode disclosed in Specification 692,731. The copper support may be amalgamated by immersion in an aqueous solution of mercuric chloride and hydrochloric acid. |
