The present invention provides a method and device for a terminal to obtain real-time video. The method comprises: when the terminal is obtaining real-time video, obtain the light intensity of the current environment; compare the light intensity of the present environment with the light intensity threshold set by the terminal; if the light intensity of the current environment is lower than the threshold set by the terminal, then obtain the video preset by the terminal and send the preset video to the recipient currently communicating with the terminal.
