The four stroke-reciprocating piston-internal combustion engine (1) has one and another cylinder (2,2') and one and another piston (4,4'), which are driven in a lifting motion by a crank mechanism (3). A gas exchange inlet valve (5) and a gas exchange outlet valve (6) are provided for each cylinder, where a suction system (7) and an exhaust system (8) are connected with each other in a gas guiding manner by a bypass line (10).
