<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of a variable valve mechanism that provides both stability by suppressing sudden change in torque and acceleration feeling at sudden acceleration. <P>SOLUTION: The control device of a variable valve mechanism 6 for changing an amount of lift of an intake valve 18 of an engine 10 comprises: a setting means 2 for setting a target value of the amount of air introduced into a cylinder 11 as a target air amount; a calculation unit 3 for calculating change in the target air amount per a predetermined time period as a first amount of change; and a controller 5 for controlling the amount of lift based on the first amount of change calculated by the calculation unit 3. As the amount of air, the volume and mass of air introduced into the cylinder 11 can be used.
