The present invention relates to a pasteurized spread comprising 10-100 wt. % of an aqueous phase and 0-90 wt. % of oil phase, wherein said spread has a pH lower than 5.4, and wherein said spread comprises preservative selected from the group consisting of sorbates and benzoates and combinations thereof in a concentration of 0.05-2 by weight of water and probiotic bacterial spores in a concentration of 103-1011 cfu/gram, preferably 104-109 cfu per gram of the spread. The invention also relates to a process for preparing such a spread.
