Provided is a protective device having a bimetal switch that allows a high level of flexibility to be achieved, and operation of the bimetal element to be controlled more accurately. The protective device has a bimetal switch (12), in which a first PTC element (14) and a bimetal element (16) are electrically connected parallel to each other, and a second PTC element (18). The bimetal element is activated when the second PTC element is tripped.
