The invention relates to a device (1) for treating a mixture including water and a portion of the exhaust gases from the combustion in an internal combustion engine prior to the mixture being injected into the intake system of the engine, wherein said device includes a member (2) for collecting a portion of the exhaust gases and a water tank (10). Said device also includes at least one chamber (16) for mixing a portion of the exhaust gases and water, said chamber being connected (18) to at least one oxidizer-intake device (20) of the engine, said chamber (16) being S-shaped and provided with a member for rendering the mixture uniform.
