Abstract A door operator is provided with a door operator drive motor module (5), a speed reduction gear box module (3), and a 5 door position sensor module (107). The door position sensor module (107) has an input shaft (121) directly connected with the gear box module (3) so the input shaft (121) will be permanently rotated as the door is opened and closed. The door position sensor module (107) has a rotatable sensor element 10 (111) that rotates with the input shaft (121) over a range less than 3600 over a full range of travel of the door greater than the range between a set open and set closed position. The motor module (5) is attached to the gear box module (3) to provide a non exposed drive connection therewith.
