Abstract A method of installing and tensioning a buoy at a subsea anchoring location comprises floating a buoy over a subsea anchoring location; hanging at least one tether off the buoy such that the or each tether extends from the buoy towards the subsea anchoring location the or each tether provided with a tensioning apparatus at the buoy for tensioning the tether; connecting the or each tether to the subsea anchoring location; and tensioning the or each tether with the tensioning apparatus, wherein the tensioned tether pivots about an articulated support on the buoy. Apparatus suitable for use with this method is also provided.
