The reaction mixture from the hydroformulation of olefines is demetallized by subjecting it to a temperature of 80-160 DEG C. in the presence of at least the stoichiometric amount, based on the catalyst metal present, of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid in the absence of water. The preferred acids are those containing 2-10 carbon atoms, e.g. acetic, propionic, butyric, isobutyric, valeric and 2-ethylhexanoic acids. The catalyst metal, e.g. cobalt, is converted into salts which may be carbonylated and recycled to the oxo synthesis. |
