A policy-based charging system for charging telecommunication network usage by a user in a telecommunication network architecture comprising a policy and charging enforcement function (PCEF) entity, a policy control and charging rules function (PCRF) entity and an online charging system (OCS), the policy and charging enforcement function (PCEF) entity being coupled to the policy control and charging rules function (PCRF) entity and to the online charging system (OCS), wherein an OCS instance (OCS IN) at the online charging system (OCS) is associated with a user session (SS), and wherein the policy control and charging rules function (PCRF) entity is coupled to the online charging system (OCS) through a direct interface (DI), the direct interface being adapted to transmit information related to a user subscription from the online charging system (OCS) to the policy control and charging rules function (PCRF) entity.
