A latch mechanism comprising a first member 11 which can be held in a first position relative to a second member 16 by a sliding latch 25, preferably S-shaped bent rod, having three parallel shafts connected by transverse bars; first and second parallel shafts are slidingly located in first and second holes in the second member and the third latching bar 36 is located in a hole (15, fig.1) in the first member to retain it in the first position. The latch is released by axially sliding the latch to disengage the shaft 36 from the hole. The latch may be spring biased into the latch position. The first member may be a u-shaped bracket pivotally mounted between first latched position and release position and may form a tilting head of a floor cleaning apparatus.
