1,021,099. Liquid fuel burners; oxygen lances. STEEL CO. OF WALES Ltd. Jan. 21, 1965 [Jan. 27, 1964], No. 3406/64. Headings F4B and F4T. A steel making blowing lance 10, for use also as a burner, comprises a casing 11 containing concentric fuel oil and oxygen supply conduits 14 and 17, the casing being provided at one end with a multi-orifice burner cum delivery nozzle 12, each orifice 13 communicating with the conduit 17 through inclined pipes 21 radiating from a discharge head 20 welded at 19 to the conduit 17. The fuel conduit 14 has fuel supply pipes 23 extending from it, the ends of which are situated in corresponding oxygen pipes 21. The conduit 14 is movable along the longitudinal axis of the lance to adjust the position of the pipes 23 thereby allowing some control of the flame. Cooling water passes through the annular passageways 28 and 29. The invention may be used as a burner, for example, for preheating or melting scrap metal in a converter, and then by turning off the fuel supply as a multi-jet oxidizing lance.
|
