A golf club head 110 comprises a strike face 111 including grooves 112. At least one edge 210 of at least one groove 113 includes at least one projection (330, fig. 3), and the effective radius of said edge or edges, either including or excluding the projection(s), is greater than or equal to 1.016mm. The projection(s) may be parallel to the groove, or non-parallel to the groove (see fig. 13). The projection(s) may extend from the edge by up to 0.0254 millimetres. One or more of the edges may include two projections. Preferably, each groove has an upper edge free of projections, and a lower edge provided with projections. A method of manufacturing a golf club head 110 is also claimed, comprising forming a strike face 111 including grooves 112 having edges, with an edge of at least one of the grooves 113 including at least one projection (330, fig. 3) and having an effective radius, either including or excluding the projection(s), of greater than or equal to 1.016mm. The golf club head 110 may be an iron type head. The edge projections may increase the grip exercised by the striking face upon impacting a golf ball. |
