PURPOSE: A field emission X-ray tube and a driving method thereof are provided to sub-miniaturize the size by including a gate electrode on the outer circumference of a vacuum container and to drive a high voltage pulse with a low voltage. CONSTITUTION: A cathode electrode(110) is included on one end of a vacuum container. The cathode electrode comprises a field emission emitter. An anode electrode(160) is included on the other end of the vacuum container. A gate electrode(130) is included on the outer circumference of the vacuum container which is contiguous to the cathode electrode. An internal arc prevention layer(131) for the gate electrode is included on the inner circumference of the vacuum container corresponding to the gate electrode. The internal arc prevention layer for the gate electrode comprises conductive material.
