<p>A lacquer comprises an organic solvent solution of nitrocellulose and a copolymer of ethylene and an ethylenically unsaturated ester of a saturated fatty acid, the copolymer comprising at least 36% by weight of the ester and being present in the proportion of 20-80% by weight, based on the combined weight of the nitrocellulose and the copolymer, especially 35-65%. Preferably the copolymer is an ethyllene-vinyl acetate copolymer. Other suitable ethylenically unsaturated esters are listed. Specified solvent mixtures include toluene, ethyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate and "Cellosolve" (Registered Trade Mark) acetate. Dioctyl phthalate may also be present. Specified pigments include titanium dioxide and phthalocyanine blue. Specification 497,643 and U.S.A.
