992,202. Spinning polyolefines and polyamides. KUNSTZIJDESPINNERIJ NYMA N.V. Jan. 9, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1963], No.1083/64. Headings B5A and B5B. Molecularly oriented products, e.g. filaments, ribbons, sheets or bars, of substituted or unsubstituted polyolefines or polyamides are made by extruding the polyamide or polyolefine, flattening the extruded product along its length, and then stretching the flattened product. The polymer may contain fillers, stabilizers, plasticizers and dyestuffs. The extruded product may be heated, e.g. by steam or hot water, before or during flattening, which may be effected by passing the extruded product between rollers. In examples, filaments of polyethylene, polypropylene and a polyamide are extruded from spinnerets having circular orifices, flattened between chromium-plated rollers, and stretched. The finished filaments have a rectangular cross-section. Specifications 474,426 and 839,845 are referred to.
