1,027,729. Field gun mounts. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES, S.A. Jan. 4, 1965 [Jan. 9, 1964], No. 1060/64. Heading F3C. In a mounting for a gun of which the centre of gravity of the elevating mass 2 lies forward of the elevation axis X - X and in which a gunner support 10, Fig. 1 (not shown), pivotally coupled at 11 to the elevating mass applies rearward of the axis X - X at least part of the weight of a gunner, spring means 18 are provided to apply to the elevating mass a moment acting about the axis X - X in the same direction is the weight of the elevating mass to counteract the applied weight of a gunner. A variable throw crank 15 pivoted at 17 on the mass 2 by ball-bearings 16 is connected pivotally by one arm 25 to a brake drum 26 secured to the fixed gun support and is pivotally connected by the spring housing 19 at 20 to the mass 2. The force of the spring 18 is applied to the crank by a plunger 21 the forward end of which carries a roller 22 slidable lengthwise along a channel in a radial arm 24 of the crank. On rotation of a screw by a knob 29 the roller 22 can be moved along the channel to vary the throw of the crank and so adjust the spring moment to that of a particular gunner. The wheels may be removed from the gun support which is then supported by a pair of vertically adjustable front supports 4, a pair of rearwardly extending spades 5 and a central ground plate 8 joined to the spades by struts 7, the spades and struts being folded together to form a tow-bar for transporting purposes.
|
