The invention comprises water-soluble salts of a mercapto lower alkyl amine with a film-forming linear polymer of a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomeric acid. The acid is preferably acrylic acid although methacrylic, ethocrylic, maleic, itaconic, vinyl sulphuric or styrene sulphonic acids are specified. The term lower alkyl is used to mean alkyl groups containing up to 4 carbon atoms. The exemplified amine is 2-mercaptoethyl amine although various primary, secondary and tertiary amines are specified. Polymer compositions comprise 2-mercaptoethyl ammonium polyacrylate in water together with glycerol, polyethylene glycol sorbiton monooleate, isopropyl palmitate and perfume. The salt may be formed in situ. The composition is used as a hair straightener.ALSO:A composition for treating hair or other keratin-containing fibre comprises a water-soluble salt of a mercapto lower alkyl amine with a film-forming linear polymer of a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomeric acid, preferably 2-mercaptoethyl ammonium polyacrylate. In addition to water the composition may also include glycerine, polyethylene glycol sorbitan monooleate, isopropyl palmitate, perfume and sodium hydroxid as a pH regulator. |
