A tool for shaving internal or estemal gears has the grooves so arranged in the teeth that those on successive teeth are not in alignment. The teeth are grooved in sets, e.g. there may be seven teeth in a set 1-7, Fig. 3 column 21), and the workpiece have eight teeth as indicated in column 20. Thus, number one tooth of the gear is contacted by tool teeth in the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. Traverse of the tool is not necessary. For shaving a large gear, the tool teeth are crowned. |
