PURPOSE: Secondary steering system and method for maintaining the target steering are provided to automatically prevent a vehicle from veering using the secondary steering value calculated from an LKAS. CONSTITUTION: A secondary steering system for maintaining the target steering comprises the following: a torque sensor(10) detecting the torque of a vehicle steering wheel; a vehicle speed sensor(6) detecting the speed of a vehicle; a steering wheel sensor(8) detecting the steering angle of the steering wheel; an MDPS ECU(30) calculating proper the torque value using the torque of the vehicle steering wheel, the speed of the vehicle, and the steering angle for operating an MDPS motor; a lane detecting sensor located on the vehicle for detecting a lane; an LKAS ECU(20) changing location information of the detected lane into the torque value, and generating the secondary steering value for preventing the vehicle from veering; an LKAS signal processing unit(32) receiving the secondary steering value from the LKAS ECU and applying to the torque value outputted from the torque sensor; and an LKAS controller calculating the necessary torque value, and applying the necessary torque to the LKAS signal processing unit. |
