A method and reading device to respond to a request from a mobile processor, suitable for mobile phone environments, are provided. A command for a specific operation includes a code value indicating the specific operation, and is received from the mobile processor. A determination is made as to whether the specific operation has been performed, and a response message including a code field and a payload field is generated and transmitted to the mobile processor. The generating step selectively includes a first generating operation comprising inserting the code value included in the command into the code field and inserting a first predetermined fixed value into the payload field, where the specific operation has been performed successfully, or a second generating operation comprising inserting a second predetermined fixed value into the code field and inserting a result value indicating a reason for the failure into the payload field, where the specific operation has been performed unsuccessfully.
