a. hydrolyzing a D-glucuronic acid compound,
b. decarboxylating a salt of the D-glucuronic acid compound to produce a dialdehydo xylitol intermediate, and
c. hydrogenating the dialdehydo xylitol intermediate in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to produce xylitol. |
