A masking sheet suitable for use on acrylic resin surfaces comprises a substantially non-stretch backing-sheet, e.g. of paper, glassine or "Cellophane" (Registered Trade Mark), having at least one surface which is highly smooth, e.g. polished or glazed, the smooth surface carrying a substantially continuous non-tacky rubber coating with a rugose outer surface, the other second side of the backing sheet having an outer surface which will not bond with the rubber coated surface when the sheet is rolled upon itself. Preferably, the second surface has applied thereto a rubber release agent, e.g. a metallic soap or a Werner type complex of trivalent chromium co-ordinated with an acyclic carboxylic acid group having at least 10 carbon atoms. The rubber coating may be applied by conventional methods, e.g. by means of a rugated doctor blade using a compounded, centrifuged, natural rubber latex which, preferably, has been mechanically worked to make it plastic and substantially non-tacky. |
