An LCD is provided to improve transmittance of light by forming a black matrix under a thin film transistor array substrate. A gate line and a data line are arranged vertically and horizontally on a first substrate, and define a unit pixel region. A switching device is formed at an intersection of the gate line and the data line. A pixel electrode is formed in the pixel region. A black matrix(250) is formed on the first substrate, and overlaps the gate line and the data line. A liquid crystal layer is formed in a gap between the first substrate and the second substrate. The black matrix has a predetermined pattern at a region overlapping the gate line and the data line. |
