The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for allocating resources for wireless communication. In the method orthogonal resources are allocated for signalling within a coordination area (10) comprising at least two radio service areas based on a first resource pattern. Orthogonal data communication resources are allocated within a radio service area (36) of the coordination area (10) based on a second resource pattern. A communication device (21) can receive signalling indicating the allocation of the orthogonal resources for signalling within the coordination area (10) and the allocation of orthogonal data communication resources within the radio service area (36), and transmit signalling and data accordingly.
