The method involves determining a movement-compensated three-dimensional image data set from two-dimensional projection images that are recorded under different projection directions. A non-periodic movement describing estimation parameter of a movement model i.e. four-dimensional spline model, is determined based on the projection images, where the movement model is formulated based on recording time points of the projection images independent of the phase of periodic movement of a target area. The image data set is animated (2) under consideration of the estimation parameter.
