<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device capable of preventing a paper jam or deterioration in a transfer rate from occurring even when a recording medium is a thin sheet of paper. <P>SOLUTION: A transfer device is disposed so as to be opposite to an image carrier 2 carrying a toner image and transfers the toner image charged with a desired polarity on the image carrier 2 to a recording medium by a transfer electric field formed by voltage supplied from both a DC high voltage power supply 21 and an AC high voltage power supply 22 by causing the image carrier 2 and the recording medium to be brought into contact with each other. The transfer device decreases an output voltage of the AC high voltage power supply 22 when a portion other than a tip portion of the recording medium is within the transfer electric field rather than when the tip portion thereof is within the transfer electric field. More specifically, in the case where the recording medium is a thin sheet of paper, a paper jam as well as deterioration in a transfer rate can be prevented by sufficiently increasing the output voltage of the AC high voltage power supply 22 applied to the tip portion of the recording medium so as not to cause the paper jam and by decreasing the output voltage thereof applied to the portion other than the tip portion so as not to cause the deterioration in the transfer rate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
