The method includes following steps: a Maintenance association Edge Point (MEP) node in a Maintenance Association (MA) sends Continuity Check Message (CCM) protocol information to the opposite MEP node during the detection; when not receiving the CCM protocol information within the presetting waiting time, the opposite MEP node sends alarm information to the master node of the Ethernet ring protection domain where the opposite MEP node locates; after receiving the alarm information, the master node performs the link protection switching operation on the Ethernet ring where the master node locates. With the invention, the fault expressed as non-offline form by physical ports in the Ethernet ring can be detected, and the time for fault detection is reduced.
