The method involves setting the manipulated variable of the electric machine (9) by a switching element, as a function of rotor position (alpha f) of the rotor of electric machine. The rotor position is set as a function of a neutral point voltage (VS) of the electric machine to determine the switching state (SZ) of the switching element. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) device for controlling multiphase electric machine; (2) method for determination of phase current of multiphase electric machine; and (3) device for determination of phase current of multiphase electric machine.
