A process for preparing an alkylated hydroxyl aromatic compound comprising reacting (a) a hydroxyl aromatic compound (I), having the following structure;formula (I), wherein n 1, 2 or 3; m is 0, 1, 2, or 3 and R1 is Hydrogen or hydrocarbyl group, and (b) at least one ß-branched primary alcohol component in the presence of an alkylating catalyst thereby producing an alkylated hydroxyl aromatic compound.
