The invention relates to a belt drive for transmitting a torque of a drive shaft, in particular a crankshaft of a motor vehicle engine, to at least one auxiliary unit, in particular a generator of a dynamo, comprising a drive pulley that can be connected to the drive shaft and at least one output pulley that can be connected to an associated auxiliary unit, wherein the output pulley provides a resistance torque in order to operate the auxiliary unit. A traction means, in particular a traction belt, is coupled to the drive pulley and the output pulley. According to the invention, a control device that can be connected to the auxiliary unit is provided, wherein the resistance torque that can be provided by means of the output pulley can be lowered by the control device in accordance with a periodically occurring irregularity of the rotational speed of the drive pulley. The dynamic load of the traction means can thereby be reduced, whereby the service life of the belt drive can be increased.
