摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface conditioning method with excellent productivity, which can secure surface quality of a product even without removal work of a grinding burr in conditioning a surface of a stainless steel slab by a grinder. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of conditioning the stainless steel slab, of which a slab width is reduced in hot-rolling, by the grinder, a grinding wheel 2 of the grinder, of which a rotation direction inclines with respect to a slab longitudinal direction, is moved from one end to the other end of the fixed slab 1 to grind the slab. When the grinding wheel reaches a slab end, the grinding wheel of the grinder is shifted in a width direction by a length equivalent to a width of a grinding surface of one time or a length less than it. The grinding wheel is moved in a direction opposite to the previous moving direction to grind the surface, and the operation is repetitively repeated.
