The method involves detecting position of accelerator pedal (2), and applying force to pedal by foot (4) of driver (6) and counter force to pedal with power controller arrangement (1), so that position of pedal is changed/remained constant. The drive positions of automatic transmission are controlled based on detected position of pedal. The counter force for pedal is increased before shifting back or up the position of pedal to low or high drive position of automatic transmission, respectively.
