摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compensation film having bi-axial retardation compensation characteristics and a vertically aligned liquid crystal display with improved viewing angle characteristics using the compensation film. <P>SOLUTION: In-plain refractive indexes n<SB POS="POST">x</SB>, n<SB POS="POST">y</SB>and a thickness refractive index n<SB POS="POST">z</SB>of the film satisfy n<SB POS="POST">x</SB>>n<SB POS="POST">y</SB>>n<SB POS="POST">z</SB>. The film has a reversed wavelength dispersion characteristic in which in-plain retardation increases as a wavelength in the range of visible rays increases, and a negative value of a normal wavelength dispersion characteristic in which the absolute value of thickness retardation decreases as a wavelength in the range of visible rays increases. A VA-LCD cell having a retardation compensation characteristic is configured by arranging a bi-axial retardation compensation film between a vertically aligned panel and an upper or lower polarizing plate, where the total thickness retardation including thickness retardation of the vertically aligned panel is in the range of 30-150 nm in proportion to the wavelength in the range of visible rays. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
